TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and the chairman of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, announced that the COVID-19 Emergency Hospital (RSDC) in Kemayoran will be closed at the end of this year.
“The RSDC Wisma Atlet Kemayoran will cease operations as of December 31, 2022,” said Suharyanto in a written statement on Friday, December 23, 2022.
Suharyanto explained that the decision was made after considering the number of COVID-19-positive cases in the country and the number of bed occupancy, especially in RSDC Wisma Atlet Kemayoran which significantly plummeted until November 2022.
Back in March 2020, the Indonesian government decided to convert Wisma Atlet Kemayoran, or the athlete village in North Jakarta, to an emergency hospital to treat patients who tested positive for the newly-discovered infectious disease, COVID-19. At that time, the number of patients continued to grow daily in Jakarta.
The Wisma Atlet Kemayoran which consists of a number of towers was previously used as the athletes’ village for the 2018 Asian Games.
